Frequently Asked Questions

HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

There really isn't a set answer to this question as several factors affect how long your lash extensions will last such as how well you follow the aftercare program, your skin type, the rate at which your natural lashes grow and the set you have (Everyday set, Posh Volume or Luxe Volume).  I have some clients with lashes that grow very fast and they need touch ups more frequently.   I also have clients who have slower growth and I see them once a month or longer.

So unfortunately, there isn't a definite answer I can provide as it's on a case by case basis.

In general, for my clients that wear an Everyday Set,  2-3 weeks is the average touch up schedule. Volume lash clients are usually every 4-5 weeks.

CAN I GET MY EYELASHES WET?

Absolutely! In fact, you have to get them wet in order to keep them clean.  On a daily basis, you should be washing your lashes because it makes your extensions last longer than if you weren't keeping them clean.  If you sweat heavily during workouts or have oily skin, it's recommended that you clean your lashes twice a day or more.  There is a caveat however and that is, immersing your lashes in water for long periods of time can affect how long your lashes last.  If you swim or visit the sauna a lot, you will notice more shedding than someone who isn't immersed in water as often.

There's a lot of misinformation out there and I know it can be confusing but anyone telling you not to clean your lashes is either very new to the industry or hasn't been properly educated on adhesive chemistry.  The adhesives that are used in today's market requires you to clean regularly in order for your lash extensions to last as oil breaks down the bond Cleaning is also necessary to prevent eye infections such as blepharitis.

Can I wear Mascara on my Lash Extensions?

My question to you is, why would you want to put mascara on your lash extensions?  Isn't the whole reason why you got lash extensions to eliminate the need for mascara?

Honestly, I don't see a reason to wear mascara with lash extensions.  I understand that eyelash extensions are a relatively new service to the public so like me, most women have grown accustomed to applying mascara and the look that it provides.  With lash extensions however, you really don't need to add mascara because lash extensions will give you longer, fuller lashes.  The goal of lash extensions is to eliminate the mascara so you can enjoy your new professional quality eyelash extensions.

The only way I would suggest the use of mascara is on your lower lashes and ONLY a lash extension friendly mascara. Any other mascara will gunk up your extensions every time you blink and weaken the adhesive bond making them shed prematurely. So if you're one that can't kick the mascara habit,  eyelash extensions are not recommended.

How Often Should I schedule Touch Ups?

Most clients book every 2-3 weeks depending on the set that they have. For the Everyday Set on average, I see clients every 2-3 weeks and for volume sets, every 4-5 weeks.

Do you use real mink fur?

I don't use real mink lashes for a variety of reasons.  The main reason is because I saw a video of how those lashes are sourced and I have a hard time believing companies that make claims of cruelty free mink lashes.  I don't judge anyone who does use them however what I saw deeply affected me and I can't bring myself to provide a product or service that blatantly compromises my personal beliefs and values. The other reasons are they don't last as long as synthetic lashes, you're at higher risk for an allergic reaction with animal fur on your eyes and within a short period of time, they go flat and lose their curl.

Instead, I use a faux mink or silk lash which both hold their curls, are rich in color and last.

Why do lash extensions cost so much?

Why do Bentley's cost so much compared to a Honda? (smile)  Ultimately, it comes down to the quality of the materials used and the skill level of the artist that determines why you pay more or less.  With well over 14 years of experience, I'm a Master Level lash artist and leader within the lash industry that has not only perfected my craft, but I also train and mentor other artists to design high quality, high-end lash extensions.

You’ll find my work on one of the biggest television shows of this decade as well as countless A list celebrities and my work has been published in magazines.  You can expect to pay more for a higher level of quality and you can expect to see a major difference between your lashes vs lashes that  cost significantly less.  So it's up to you.  Do you want the Bentley or do you want the Honda?  One is good and the other is amazing but there's an obvious difference in quality that you and everyone else will see.

Can I have an allergy?

Allergies CAN happen. At the moment, there isn't a patch test that can accurately assess whether or not you will have a reaction to the adhesive or materials used during the application process. Personally, I've had 3 low level reactions over a span of 12 years and hundreds of Clients. I always ensure the lash extensions don't touch the skin and I use a high quality, medical grade adhesive that performs great for most people. But if you do experience discomfort, contact me immediately for next steps.

Should I have lash extensions applied right before my vacation/wedding?

If you've never worn extensions before, I suggest getting a full set of extensions a few weeks prior to your vacation. You want to give yourself time to get comfortable with your new extensions. You don't want to be on your vacation in a remote place or worse on your wedding day with irritated eyes and unable to find an artist to help you. So it's best to get a fresh new set a few weeks in advance and a touch up right before your vacation/big event.

Do lash extensions make your lashes shorter/thinner over time?

The idea that lash extensions damage your natural lashes or cause them to become thinner or shorter with continued wear is a common misconception. When lash extensions are applied properly, meaning the thickness of the extension isn’t too heavy for your natural lash to support, they are no more than 3-4mm longer than your natural lashes and each extension is carefully applied to one lash at a time, you will not see a difference in the health of your natural lashes regardless of how long you wear lash extensions.

Your natural eyelashes are in a constant cycle of growing and shedding which is less noticeable without lash extensions because your natural lashes tend to be shorter, lighter in color and fine in texture. However, when lash extensions are applied, your lashes appear darker, more curly and fuller which makes it more noticeable when they shed.

Also, I’ve learned from wearing hair extensions for many years that over time, your eyes adjust to the new you. Meaning, you get used to seeing yourself with thicker, fuller lashes. So once they’re removed, it may seem like you have significantly less lashes but it’s only because you’ve grown used to seeing lash extensions.

I always take before and after pictures to keep on file which is available to you upon request if you want to be sure the condition of your lashes hasn’t changed from lash extension wear.

How often do I need a full set?

I’ve been a lash artist since 2007 and have had clients that have stayed with me since the very beginning of my career. They usually schedule touch ups and do not ever need a new full set unless they get off track from their regular touch up schedule due scheduling conflicts or do not follow the recommended aftercare program.

If however at any time, you arrive at your appointment with less than 50% of your lash extensions remaining, I will recommend a new full set to ensure your lashes look full and flawless.
